V and I dragged our friend A to the job fair in Gateway Mall. At first, I was kidding. I never go to job fairs because it's chaotic plus there's a huge chance that you might bump into someone from work who is also looking for a job. According to this book I read, if someone at work sees you applying for another job, it may be the end of your career. Probably not in our organization as it is a huge one.
I agreed to go because I saw it as a chance to drop my resume in all the organizations who were in the job fair. That way, they'll just be calling me and I'd just be choosing which one I really want to pursue. However, when I got there, I was a bit disappointed. I wasn't interested in most of the companies that participated. I signed up for only one. I had ten resumes printed out, hoping it would be like shopping for a job but it didn't end that way. It was out friend who jumped from one booth to another, giving her resumes to the HR folks.
Then the inevitable happened: Someone who used to work in our company was there. A was the first one who spotted him. When I went to the other booth to find out who it was, I kinda freaked out. It was someone I ALMOST fired due to absences a few months ago. I tried to say hi but he took off. HAHA!
What would you do if your boss sees you applying at a job fair?
